Visit Austin

A website to market Texas's very musical capital city of Austin.

Overview

I helped build the Visit Austin website alongside by teammates at Simpleview. Following are some curated examples of the work I contributed.

01Rhythm and Peruse

The Header Navigation

It was my responsibility to build Austin's header, footer, and navigation.

This was no small task, as the design was deceptively complex, and full of subtle interactivity. I spent a good amount of time fine-tuning the user experience until everything sang.

02A Call to Interaction

The Marquee Callout Tiles

Visit Austin's Marquee Callout Tiles were both a challenge and a joy to build.

First, there's the infinitely scrolling marquee at the top. Next, the subtle but beautiful hover effects on the outer tiles. And finally, the hidden animated GIF that only appears when hovering over the center tile.

I love to delight the users of the websites I build. I love even more to build these little moments that bring a site to life.

03Preview Austin Day or Night

The Day-Night Preview Slideshow

I absolutely love Simpleview's designers because they make my job so much fun.

The Day-Night Slideshow is the sort of website-defining element that all web developers dream of building. It's a subtle invitation to the user to find something hidden and unexpected. Which makes it perfect for a website whose purpose is to entice tourists to visit Austin's hidden delights.

Music to My Eyes

Getting the opportunity to build something that both reflects Austin's culture and helps the destination to thrive was a dream come true.

While I did not design the Visit Austin website, I am proud of the work I contributed to building it. Whether you are new to travel or a Texas veteran, it is my wish that the Visit Austin website encourages both newcomers and honorary Texans not to overlook this one-of-a-kind destination.
