Kyra Luckleav is a kitchen servant in Auerstel Castle and also happens to be Pendrake's love interest. Duke Andel Sommer, Pendrake's father, expressly forbids their love and instead campaigns for Pendrake to marry someone equal to his station. Because of this, Pendrake occasionally goes to great and dangerous lengths to prove his devotion to Kyra. At one point in the story his love for her nearly gets him killed.
